FIVE MILE ACT

an act of Charles II (1665) forbidding nonconform is clergymen who refused to take the oath of non-resistance and swear to attempt no alteration of the constitution in Church or State, to come within 5 miles of any corporate town where they had preached since the Act of Oblivion. They were also prevented from keeping schools. The Act was repealed in 1688.
