Baden-Baden

the name being reduplicated to it from other Badens, is a town in the Duchy of Baden. It is famous for its thermal which were known to the Romans, who the place Civitas Aurelia Aquensis. Distant miles S.W. from Carlsruhe, and 22 miles from it has a lovely site in a rich valley of the Forest, and its natural advantages have been by art, the roads and public gardens being laid out and the houses picturesquely The gambling-tables that once drew vast crowds of visitors have been suppre ed, the medicinal properties of the waters and the of the locality still render it one of the popular of German summer resorts. There ancient ruins in the neighbouring town, an old a Jesuit college, and very commodious pi buildings of modern date. The Empre erick has a country seat near the town.
