Helio polis

(he-le-õp'o-lis.) [Gr., city of the sun.] (Anc. Geog.) A famous city of antiquity, the site of which presents only a few ruinous architectural remains, 6 m. N.N.E. of Cairo, Egypt. It is believed that this place was the original seat of the old Egyptian sun-worship.-H. Syriæ. See BAALBEC. [s. 447]
