Helio polis

The Greek name for Annu, capital of the thirteenth nome of Lower Egypt, near the modern Matariyeh. The chief deity was Ra, the sun god, from which fact the Greek name comes. It was the Scriptural On, whence Joseph took his wife. (See Annu.)
