olis. Greek name of an Egyptian site near the head of the Delta. As the ancient On it was a chief seat of sun worship and center of learning. The obelisk, dating from Usertasen, 12th Dynasty, is its only remaining antiquity to be seen there now. Four others, once there, are now in Rome, London, Constantinople, and New York.
