is a colourle liquid of acid properties, It is produced when milk turns sour, and also when the food ferments in tho stomach, in cases of fatulent dyspepsia, giving rise by its irritating properties to heartburn. Hence the value of a dose ok bial of sods in heart-burn, for it neutralises the lactic acid. [s. 381]
