Attorney

One authorized to act for another. He is called an attorney in fact when he acts as an ordinary agent; an attorney at law, when he has legal authority to act for another in the conduct of law proceedings. The qualifications and the admi ion to the bar of attorneys at law are generally prescribed by statute. They are officers of the court; are bound to act with good faith toward their clients and the court, and are subject to summary proceedings for breaches of this duty. They are liable to their clients for damages caused by their unskillfulne or negligence, and have a lien on their clients' papers or securities in their po e ion and upon judgments which they obtain.
