Hyacinth us

, a son of Amyclas and Diomede, greatly beloved by Apollo and Zephyr us. He returned the former’s love, and Zephyr us, incensed at his coldne and indifference, resolved to punish his rival. As Apollo, who was entrusted with the education of Hyacinth us, once played at quoit with his pupil, Zephyr us blew the quoit, as soon as it was thrown by Apollo, upon the head of Hyacinth us, and he was killed with the blow. Apollo was so disconsolate at the death of Hyacinth us, that he changed his blood into a flower, which bore his name, and placed his body among the constellations.
