Dalmatic

(dal-mat'ik.) [L. dalmatic a.] (Eccl.) In the Roman Catholic Church, a long, white, sleeved robe worn by deacons over the alb stole: it derives its name from having been originally a Roman garment made in imitation of one worn by the people of Dalmatia. [s. 262]
