DALMATIC

a vestment which took its name from a species of Rom. tunic worn in the first centuries of Christian era; adopted by pope and deacons, and later used by deacons and subdeacons of the R.C. Church; has wide, straight sleeves, skirt split at sides, and two vertical joined by two horizontal stripes.
