Chatter ton

THOMAS, (chat'tr-tin,) an English poet, B. 1752. His name has become famous, both by the extraordinary literary forgeries he concocted of so-called Old English poems, and by his sad fate. He poisoned himself in an obscure lodging in London, whither he had resorted for literary employment, and where he died, on the brink of absolute starvation, 1770. [s. 170]
