Thomas, was born in 1752, and in his youth was devoted to reading. His parents were poor, so he was educated at a charity school, and when fourteen apprenticed to an attorney. He went to London, but could not make a living, and poisoned himself in 1770. His best poems were published under the name of Rowley, and are called Hie Tragedy of Ella, The Battle of Hastings, etc.
