JOHANN SEBASTIAN, (bak,) an eminent German musical composer, B. 1685, became court organist at Weimar, and finally director of music at the school of St. Thomas, Leipzig. B. was almost unrivalled as an organist. His works are thoroughly original, profoundly scientific, and most difficult of execution. D. 1750. [s. 66]
