the East. (dèm'ah-gog.) [From Gr. demos, the people, and ego, to lead.] (Pol.) A leader of the people, or of a popular faction. Among the ancients the term was of honorable application; but, in modern times, it has been prostituted into the signification of a ringleader of the rabble, or one of a cla of factious and seditious persons who pander to the political pa ions of the lower orders of society.
