DEMAGOGUE

(Yunanca köken — orijinale bakınız.) One who directs or leads the people in political matters. In its original acceptation it was considered as a most honourable designation, having been applied to Solon, Demosthenes, and in fact to many of the most illustrious characters of antiquity; but it is now almost invariably used in a bad sense.
