Momentum

(mo-měn'tum,) or IMPETUS. [L., move ment.] (Dynamics.) The effect which one body in motion is capable of producing on another. It is numerically represented by the product obtained by multiplying together the ma and velocity. Thus, a body containing 5 lbs. of matter, and moving at the rate of 12 ft. per second, has a M. of 60. [s. 610]
