(47° 21’ N., 5° 2’ E.), fort if led town, Cdéte d’Or, France; has Gothic cathedral and several fine churches; H6tel-de-ville, formerly ducal palace; Palais-de-Justice, XV. cent.; univ., schools of art and music, D. came under Dukes of Burgundy XI. cent., and for cent’s was their capital; bombarded and occupied by Pru ians, 1870. D. is important railway junction, lies on Canal de Bourgogne; center of Burgundy wine industry; liquor, beer, mustard, candles, wool, market produce. Pop. 75,000.
