(sim-is-e-fu’ ’-gah) [cimex, a bug; fugare, to drive away]. Black snake-root, Black cohosh. The root of C. racemosa, ord. Ranunculaceae. A stomachic, antispasmodic, aphrodisiac, expectorant, and diuretic. Its action on the heart is similar to that of digitalis.
