(sim-is-e-fu' -gal i). Black Snake Root, Black Cohosh. 'The root of C. racemosa, ord. Ranunculaceoe. A stomachic, antispasmodic, aphrodisiac, expectorant, and diuretic. Its action on the heart is similar to that of digitalis. It is efficient as a tonic in many cardiac diseases, in functional impotence, and ovarian neuralgia. C, Ext. fid. (alcoholic).
