Surface-condenser

An apparatus as before described, containing a multitude of small copper-, or bra -tubes, through which cold water is continuously forced by the circulating-pump, to condense the steam. In some surface-condensers the proce is reversed, i. e: the steam from the cylinder exhausts into the condenser-tubes, and the circulating water is forced between the tubes. See Plate 54 A.
