(Lat.), n. f. La3-ri2n(ru6n2)-ji(ge)'ti2s. Gen., it'idos (-idis). From Aopvyf. the larynx (see also -it is*). Fr., laryngite, angine laryngee. Ger., Kehlkopfentzundung. Inflammation of the mucous membrane of the larynx. In the acute form the submucous ti ue is apt to be involved also, giving rise to laryngismus and to narrowing or closure of the glottis from oedema. See Dry 1. Diffuse cellular 1. A diffuse cellulitis of the larynx, with infiltration of lymph or pus into the submucous ti ue. It begins with chills, sore throat, and fever, followed by cough, dyspnoea, a dusky hue of the fauces, enlargement of the tonsils and neighboring glands, and dysphagia. The fever takes a low type, and the patient may die from laryngeal oedema, from asphyxia, or from exhaustion. [D, 25 ] Diphtheritic 1. Lat., I. diphtheritic a. 1. See CROUP (1st def.). 2.
