F. containing nitrogen, such as the proteids. According to Liebig's theory, the function of nitrogenous f. is to build up the ti ue, hence it was called plastic f. non azotized f., non-nitrogenous f. Fats and carbohydrates, organic f. Any organic substance used for the nutriment of the body, peptonized f. A f. in which the proteins are digested or partially digested by pepsin, plastic f.
