TROY WEIGHT

An English weight chiefly used in weighing gold, silver, diamonds, and other articles of jewellery. The pound troy contains 12 ounces or 57G0 grains, the pound avoirdupoise containing 7000 of such grains. The name is supposed to have reference to the monkish name given to London, of Troy Novant.
