(ber’ga-mot) [L. berg a’mium]. 1. The tree, Cifrus berg a’mia; also its orange-like fruit, whose rind affords the fragrant oil of bergamot (L. of’eum = berg a’mii). 2. A popular name for various fragrant labiate plants, such as Men’tha cttra’ta and Monar'da fistulo’sa.
