ALOE

(Arabic, alloch.) A small tree with endogenous stems, and stiff, fleshy, hard pointed leaves, abounding in a purgative principle which is obtained by simple pre ure of the bruised leaves, or by boiling. The 34 ALPHABET. juice when inspi ated becomes the medicinal drug of the shops. It vanes much in quality. (See the following article.) [s. 47]
