Pudding

(půd'ding.) (Cookery.) A species of food of a soft or moderately hard consistence, variously made, but usually a compound of flour or meal of maize, with milk and eggs, sometimes enriched with raisins. P. of all kinds constitute an important part of the food in this country; but the plum-pudding is nowhere so extensively used as in Great Britain. It is the glory of an English dinner-table, and regarded as an e ential on all festive occasions. [s. 740]
