(pan‘kre-as) [Gr. πᾶς all + xpéas flesh]. A large, elongated, racemose gland below the stomach and in relation with the spleen and the duodenum. Its right extremity, the Acad, is the larger, and directed downward; the left extremity, or fail, is transverse, and terminates close to the spleen. The secretion or juice of the pancreas, which pa es into the duodenum through the pancreatic duct, is concerned in digestion, and contains four ferments—amylopsin, irypsin, steapsin, and milk-curdling ferment.
