diastase

(di’as-tis) (Gr. διαστάναι to separate]. A white, amorphous, soluble solid produced during the germination of seeds, and contained in malt. It converts starch into dextrin and glucose. pancreatic d., a ferment obtained from the creatic secretions and given for indigestion. takad. See taka-diastase.
