GASTRITIS

Inflammation of the stomach. It is attended by great irritability of the stomach, indicated by hiccup, vomiting, and much pain and general uneasine : the pulse is small and hard, and there is fever, attended by prostration of strength. It is a very dangerous disease, and requires prompt treatment; especially bleeding, general and local; blisters; hot bath, or fomentation. The constant sickne generally prevents the exhibition of any of the ordinary remedies. When it arises from poison, the stomach pump and other distinct treatment is often requisite. [s. 500]
